This Accredited Food Handling Unit is suitable to learn the key elements of food safety. After completing this food handlers unit, you will be able to understand thecontext of all fundamental food safety principals.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use personal hygiene practices to prevent contamination of food that might cause food-borne illnesses. It requires the ability to follow predetermined organisational procedures and to identify and control food hazards.

This unit helps with the understanding to the relationship of food handling in restaurants, cafes, clubs, hotels, bars, tour operators, attractions, function, event, exhibition and conference caterers,
, educational institutions, aged care facilities, correctional centres, hospitals, defence forces, cafeterias, kiosks, canteens, fast food outlets, residential caterers, in flight and other transport caterers.

It offers knowledge to the food handlers which can be any person who directly handles food or food contact surfaces food such as cutlery, plates and bowls. People at many levels use this skill in the workplace during the course of their daily activities, including cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen stewards, kitchen hands, bar and food and beverage attendants and sometimes room attendants and front office staff.

3rd Party Checklist

For this unit a 3rd party checklist will need to be completed by you with your Manager or Supervisor whilst you are in your place of employment. You must be observed by either your Manager or Supervisor completing the tasks on the 3rd party checklist. This assessment covers the elements and performance criteria, skills and critical aspects for assessment and evidence related to the competency unit SITXFSA001 Use hygiene practices for food safety. You can download this checklist on slide 2 (alternatively we can email it to you) within the course. Once you have achieved a 100% success rate with AQT is online assessment and your 3rd party checklist has been completed you will need to upload or email this checklist to us (instructions are on the 1st page of the 3rd party checklist). Once AQT has received you 3rd party checklist and it is 100% completed your assessment will be finalised and your Statement of Attainment will be emailed to you. We may call your Manager or Supervisor for verification.

Your Supervisor or Manger must be an expert in the Hospitality field and have been working in this industry for at least the last 5 years for AQT to considered them as an expert. This assessment MUST be completed in and operational commercial food preparation area, bar or kitchen.
